It's low season in Thailand, which means hot and daily rain. It's not awful, but definitely not as nice as high season. The rains are generally short lived and you can usually wait them out if you're using a bike for transportation. We have a car so it really doesn't effect us. THe heat does effect me. There is no such thing as central air here. Each bedroom has an a/c unit, but the rest of the house has to use fans. Thai houses are built with lots of windows, but still stifling hot for someone not use to the heat. So I end up either stuck in my office all day or going out, which isn't that bad as I'm working a ton right now.
Poker and everything poker related is going well. I'm going to start playing on Party in the next day or so. The games look good and I'm excited about taking on a new site. Party really has a nice points system and rewards. I should easily make 50% RB raking $200/day for 25 days this month. The only thing I dislike is that prime time is early AM for my time. I'm going to try to play at my normal time and see how it goes, but if I can't get the games I want I'll start getting up at 5. I just don't want to get into that pattern where I'm up all night and sleeping all day. Unhealthy and bad for relationships imo.
I was reflecting today on how much I enjoy poker. The bad runs are brutal and I've had worst runs than most, but when poker is going decent there's nothing I enjoy more. I love the challenge of it-dissecting players and figuring out what lines to take while playing 12 tables. I've been working a lot on being fearless and going with my reads-mostly being able to turn made hands into bluffs on the river.
I bought a man purse and I'm not feeling great about it.
I usually wear cargo shorts so I have plenty of pockets to put stuff; wallet, phone, Kindle, keys, change. With my ipad being too big for the cargo shorts pockets I'm left carrying it around which isn't good. I could drop it, it's easier to leave laying somewhere and it feels too over action (thai for showing off). So I started looking for some sort of messenger bag and ended up with something that looks like a small back pack. I do like it, but feel very unmanly.
My workouts have not been happening this year. I bought an elliptical machine for my home and that helps, but I can't seem to get myself to the gym to lift two or three times a week. It's been such a big part of my life the past few years, but since my accident and some elevated blood pressure making it impossible for me to really push my workouts I've just not gone regularly.
If you're interested I'm offering coaching/rb deals on Merge for American players and Party for non-American players. You can email me at [email protected] for more info.
I've worked my way through my individual coaching wait list and can start someone new in the next few weeks (if I've missed contacting you let me know asap). I do package coaching only where I work through you game step-by-step finding what works and what doesn't while discussing poker theory. You can find more info here below group coaching. I've coached 20 players this year with very solid success.
I also have my group coaching class which is every Sunday at noon US EST. You can find more info at the above link.
For those thinking about a move to Thailand I'm happy answering any of your questions.
I ended up making an "arts 'n crafts" type gift that I could send through the web. Hopefully you can see the "bigger image" as well....anyway this was the end result:
Donated Money to a Great Charity Baan Lamoong Partly due to Chinese influence, here in Thailand the tradition for generations was to have large extended families all live live under one roof and take care of one another. However due to an increase in middle class, many Thai's are now favoring a nuclear family. This would be fine except Thailand is severely lacking in government support programs for the elderly such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. All too often now the elderly, who should be respected, are left with nowhere to turn.
If you would like to donate either money or Laser credits, I'd recommend Baanlamung and can provide you with a receipt of your donation:
dancing and social activities for elderly
singing songs as a group; recognize anyone :)

We won't lie. The previous Laser coaching rate of 200 credits/hr coaching rate was pretty much a joke while we were all too busy setting up LaserPoker to offer any private coaching. Laser now charges 7.5 credits an hour and accepts applications from students on the site who are not eligible to upgrade to rewards for $75/hr.
Laser Poker is proud to announce the addition of our first listed coach James "jspill" Spillane. He specializes in micro stakes LHE and can offer coaching and staking opportunities for players wishing to learn the limit hold'em ropes. After finding his
Results for the last few months have been very encouraging, while I haven't been putting in a ton of volume, my winrate has been higher than ever. I'm running at about 5BB/100 before rakeback at .25 .50 over a large sample, and been taking successful shots at higher stakes. Unfortunately there isn't much action above 50FL other than bad beat jackpot tables, which I've decided to avoid from now on as the rake can be up to 7BB/100 (explaining my slightly losing stats there). There have also been some great promotions at Partypoker, like the Gladiator, Card Rush and Snowball promotions, which add extra effective rakeback on top of bonuses.
I'm looking forward to putting in more volume and getting a private rakeback deal which will make it easy to make a living at these stakes playing just a few hours a day. There just aren't many regs at all, and many of them are breakeven TAGs. The recreational players way overplay value hands, and the extra bets they put into pots bad is a massive boost to my winrate. This was a fun hand, and a prime example:
